writing goals for next year

Next year, my writing goals are to improve in my weaker areas, and ACT writing prompts. My weaker areas that I need to improve are my details and ideas in my papers, my voice and sentence fluency. I feel I can improve on theses areas by practicing writing and focusing specifically on these areas, or by learning more about these traits of writing. By learning more about these areas, I can understand how I can improve in them. Another goal of mine for next year is to improve on the writing portion on the ACT. The only way to accomplish this goal would be to practice prompts. By practicing these prompts I can accomplish this goal and improve my weaker areas of writing which will then accomplish both of my goals for next year.     By accomplishing these goals, I will also be improving my overall writing skills. I hope to set aside a certain amount of time throughout next year, where I practice some prompts and my writing skills.

"I am a writer who..."

After I get home, from my exhausting day at school, I open my journal. This is my book of secrets, wishes, and especially rants. I open to a fresh sheet of paper and compose my thoughts. I recall of of the major events that occurred throughout the day and the way they made me feel. Sometimes, I feel happy like when it feels like everyone actually cares about what I am doing throughout the day, but other times, I feel sad like when someone says something and I take it personally for some reason. Once all of my thoughts are collected, I begin to write. The swift way the writing feels with my ballpoint pen is like no other. I feel I can be honest in this place of secrecy. My ideas roll out of my brain and into the pen to create an artistic page filled with messy cursive like writing.     I am a writer who pours out my heart in every piece that I write. I feel as if I do not give me all in each piece of writing that I do, then it is not really my writing. Hone...

writing skills I have learned this year

I have learned so much about my self as a writer this year. I have learned about many things that I can carry on with me in my writing in the next coming years. I have learned the most about editing skills and being able to see different types of mistakes in papers. This comes in handy when proof reading my major essays because I have learned how to spot common grammar and formatting mistakes quickly. Another major thing I have learned in writing is what to include in specific types of papers. I have learned that in personal narratives, it is a must to add in details to make your reader feel as if they were experiencing the event them selves, and in Literary narratives, I learned that, when you analyze a quote, you have to introduce the quote, then state the quote, an then analyze the quote. Also, the quote has to be incorporated into one of your own sentences, and everything has to be in literary present tense.     I think all of these things I have learned, in...

reflection for writing center

In this semester, I went to the writing center for help on my revision post for this portfolio blog. My main focus was on a stronger conclusion and thesis statement and to make sure that my points I stated came across the way I intended for them to. For my conclusion, I reworded a few of my statements to make sure it wasn't repetitive and I tried to incorporate a statement at the end to both tie into my main ideas in my paper an leave the reader thinking with a new perspective. Since my revision is on my literary analysis, I attempted to leave the reader with a new concept about the novel. Next, I revised my thesis statement. I felt that my thesis didn't have a clear position on the subject and didn't incorporate a literary element. To fix this, the writing fellow suggested that I should reread my essay and try to find the major points. After doing this, I found it a lot easier to fix my thesis.      I feel like all of these things helped to move this...

writing weaknesses

Even though my writing has grown and improved in so may areas, I still need some work on certain areas of my writing. Some things I still need work on are details and ideas, voice, and sentence fluency. I feel these are some of the most important traits of good writing, but they are also the areas I need to work the most on. However, I do think I have significantly improved in these areas. These areas take me the most time to correct in my papers and essays and are the hardest for me to spot in my writing.      I feel that my details and ideas are usually weak because I think of some concrete details for a particular concept, but I cannot find a way to portray what I want the reader to get out of it, correctly. My unclear details and ideas make it harder for me to depict my thoughts in my writing entirely. Related to this, I find that my voice in my written works is inadequate. It is hard for me to describe events and make the reader feel as if they ...

writing strengths

Throughout this year, I have learned many things about my writing and my writing skills. There have been several things I have learned and excelled at in my writing. I feel that my writing strengths include: origination, conventions, and word choice. I feel like these subjects are my strongest concepts in my written work currently. I also feel that I have grown the most in these areas to make them my current strengths. In several of my papers, I have shown that these were my strengths.         I feel the best example of my writing skills was in my personal narrative. In this essay, I told a story about my childhood passion of playing on the monkey bars, and how that led to me meeting my best friend. In previous years of writing, I have always struggled with my organization, so for this essay, I decided to focus mainly on my arrangement. Throughout this paper, I found that my ideas, even though not portrayed clearly, were organized....
